Stuttering
Stuttering is a speech difference where the flow of talking is interrupted by repetitions (e.g. “b-b-ball”), stretching sounds, or getting “stuck” on words. It can also involve physical tension, changes in breathing, or avoidance of certain words or speaking situations. Stuttering often begins in childhood and can vary from day to day, or across different settings such as home, school, work and social situations.
At Sound Bites Therapy Services, we provide evidence-based assessment and therapy for children and young adults who stutter. Our clinicians draw on approaches such as the Lidcombe Program, Oakville Program and stutter modification techniques, selected according to age, goals and individual needs. Therapy may focus on reducing stuttering, building easier, more relaxed speech, and supporting confidence and participation.
We work closely with families, educators and support teams to create supportive communication environments and practical strategies. Our aim is to help people who stutter feel heard, understood and able to say what they want to say.
