Stuttering
Stuttering is a variation in speech where the flow of talking is interrupted by repetitions, prolongations, blocks or feeling “stuck” on words. It can also involve physical tension, changes in breathing, or avoiding certain sounds, words or speaking situations. For many adults, stuttering has been present since childhood and may affect confidence, participation and wellbeing, even when communication skills and ideas are strong.
At Sound Bites Therapy Services, we provide evidence-based assessment and therapy for adults who stutter. Therapy is collaborative and person-centred, drawing on approaches such as stutter modification, speech restructuring and cognitive-behavioural strategies, depending on each person’s goals. We may focus on making speech easier and more comfortable, reducing struggle and avoidance, and building confidence in everyday communication.
We can also work with families, partners, employers and support teams to create understanding, supportive environments. Our aim is to help adults who stutter communicate in ways that feel authentic, effective and sustainable.
