Let’s get down
to basics.

Literacy

Literacy skills include reading, spelling, writing and understanding written information, and are essential for learning, independence and participation at school, work and in the community. Some children and young adults find literacy challenging due to underlying speech, language or phonological awareness difficulties, or because they have not received the structured support they need.

At Sound Bites Therapy Services, we use evidence-based, structured literacy approaches, including programs such as Sounds-Write, to build strong foundations in phonemic awareness (hearing and working with sounds in words), decoding (sounding out), spelling and reading comprehension. Therapy is systematic, explicit and cumulative, with skills taught in small, manageable steps and practised in meaningful activities.

We work closely with families, schools and other professionals to support consistent strategies across settings. Our goal is to help children and young adults become more confident, accurate and independent readers and writers, improving their ability to learn, communicate and fully participate in everyday life.
