Feeding, Swallowing, Mealtimes
Feeding, swallowing and mealtimes are about much more than nutrition – they are central to health, development, connection and family life. Some babies, children and young adults experience difficulties such as coughing or choking with drinks, refusing certain textures, taking a very long time to eat, or having a limited range of accepted foods. These challenges can be related to medical conditions, oral motor skills, sensory processing, or past difficult experiences with feeding.
At Sound Bites Therapy Services, our speech pathologists assess feeding and swallowing to understand safety, efficiency and comfort at mealtimes. We work closely with families, medical teams and other professionals to support safe swallowing, appropriate textures and positive, low-pressure mealtime routines. Therapy may include oral motor support, sensory-based strategies, graded exposure to new foods, and practical coaching for caregivers. Our goal is to make mealtimes safer, calmer and more enjoyable, while supporting growth, nutrition and participation in family and community life.
