Let’s get down

to basics.

Craniofacial

Craniofacial conditions in adults can occur from birth or arise later through injury, surgery, trauma or medical treatment. Changes to the structure of the skull, face, jaw, palate or nose can affect speech clarity, resonance (nasality), swallowing, chewing, facial movement, comfort and confidence in social or work settings. Adults may notice their speech sounds different, food or drink escaping through the nose, increased effort when talking, or difficulty being understood, especially in noisy environments or with unfamiliar listeners.

At Sound Bites Therapy Services, our speech pathologists have additional training and experience in cleft palate and craniofacial conditions, including acquired changes after injury or surgery. We provide detailed assessment of speech, resonance and swallowing, and work closely with surgeons, craniofacial teams and other health professionals.

Therapy may focus on improving speech clarity, managing nasal air escape, supporting safe and comfortable swallowing, and developing practical strategies for everyday communication. We listen carefully to each person’s goals and priorities, aiming to support function, participation and quality of life.
