Autism
Therapy for autistic children and young adults at Sound Bites Therapy Services is individualised, strengths-based and respectful of neurodiversity. We focus on supporting communication, social interaction, play, emotional regulation, flexibility and participation in everyday life, rather than trying to “change” who a person is.
Our speech pathologists draw on evidence-based approaches and work closely with families, educators and support teams to understand each person’s sensory profile, interests, communication style and priorities. Therapy may include supporting spoken language, AAC, social communication, play skills, understanding and using nonverbal cues, and building functional routines for home, kindy, school, work and the community.
We are experienced in working with autistic individuals who may also experience Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), anxiety, selective mutism or feeding challenges. Sessions are paced carefully, with predictable routines, visual supports and collaborative goal-setting. Our aim is to build communication, confidence and autonomy, helping autistic children and young adults feel understood, respected and included.
