AAC
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes any method of communication that supports or replaces verbalisation. This can range from simple systems like key word signs, picture boards and communication books, to high-tech speech-generating devices and apps on tablets. AAC can be used by children and young adults who are non-speaking, have limited speech, or whose speech is difficult to understand.
At Sound Bites Therapy Services, we use evidence-based AAC approaches to help individuals express their wants, needs, thoughts and feelings, and to participate more fully at home, school, work and in the community. Our clinicians have experience with systems such as PODD, Proloquo2Go, Proloquo, TouchChat and Grid.
We work closely with families, educators and support teams to select, set up and personalise AAC systems, and to provide training and ongoing support. Our focus is on building real communication in everyday routines, not just “pressing buttons”, so that AAC users can connect, learn and belong.
